Generative AI in Learning and Teaching: Practical Ideas and Resources

1. Purpose of This Document

This document offers practical examples and ideas on how academic colleagues can use Generative AI (GenAI) effectively in learning and teaching.

It complements other documents you should already be familiar with:

This document doesn't repeat that guidance. It focuses purely on practical ideas: what colleagues across the University are finding useful, and where to find more.

If you're unsure whether a particular use is appropriate, this isn't the document to check - see the Academic Integrity and Ethical AI Guidance for Colleagues instead, or email genai@westminster.ac.uk.

2. Choosing GenAI Tools

Where at all possible, use institutionally supported GenAI tools and systems. Using third-party tools not supported by the University increases risk around intellectual property, privacy, and copyright.

3. Example Uses of GenAI in Learning and Teaching

It's difficult to be prescriptive here because subject areas vary widely in how GenAI may be integrated into the curriculum, and overprescribing would likely stifle exploration and innovation.
