Frequently Asked Questions: AI Studio

For students and colleagues

These FAQs answer common questions about AI Studio, including internet access, model currency, student access, suggested prompts and visibility of student activity.

I notice that AI Studio cannot access the internet. Is this likely to change in the future?

One of the areas currently being explored is moving AI Studio to newer models. Most models have a knowledge cut-off - the point at which their training data ends - which is generally some time before the model itself is released.

Moving to more up-to-date models would help to reduce that knowledge gap, although this is separate from giving AI Studio direct access to the internet.

Can work completed by a student in AI Studio be seen by academic tutors?

At the moment, there is not a direct way for an academic tutor to view a student's activity in AI Studio.

Students can, of course, take a screenshot or copy and paste their work if they would like to share it.

Looking ahead, we would like to make AI Studio available within particular course activities, such as assessment. In those contexts, sharing the AI Studio transcript with the instructor would form part of the intended workflow. This is an area being considered, rather than something currently on the roadmap.

If a student opens AI Studio from the Tools menu, will the three suggested prompts relate to the Blackboard course currently open?

The three suggestions are drawn from the courses the student has accessed most recently.

The aim is to offer them a relevant and useful starting point when they enter AI Studio.

Can a student access AI Studio without first opening a particular Blackboard course?

Yes. A student does not need to open a particular course before accessing AI Studio.

In this situation, the suggestions will be selected from the courses in which they are enrolled.
